Company History
National Bus Sales & Leasing, Inc.
was established in 1974 with a mission to distribute and service
specialized transportation equipment primarily in the Atlanta, Georgia
area. In the early years, the start-up company was located in a small,
3,000 square foot facility, and relied on four employees. National’s
business aggressively grew to become a more regional provider of
buses, emergency medical vehicles, and fire apparatus for the Southeast
and Southwest.
Energized with a vision to expand its footprint
and offer more products, National continued to grow in personnel and
territory. Through the early growth years, National became a provider
of varied products and services. During the 70’s and 80’s, NBS operated
a fleet of Blue Bird school buses, acting as a contractor for local
school systems. The 1980’s offered the opportunity to own and operate
transit style buses as a regional carrier of passengers and freight to
outlying cities. In the mid 80’s, a fleet of Motor Coach Industries
buses was added to service coach shuttle demand and charter business.
In addition, the company operated a fleet of emergency medical
vehicles. The Bus Sales division of National continued to grow and
expand during this period and became more focused on the commercial bus
market and less on school bus sales.
Products and additional
salespersons were added to accommodate greater attention to the
Emergency Medical Vehicle sales in the mid 80’s as National became one
of the top providers of this type vehicle in the United States. The
company continued adding staff to sell Fire Apparatus and Equipment to
a customer base of City and County Fire Chiefs with products from the
leading manufacturers of Fire Apparatus equipment. Highly specialized
products and specially trained staff provided a platform for National
to make inroads into many other varied markets, with buses remaining
the primary core business.
In the early 1990’s, National’s
business plan changed to become one of a sales provider of School and
Commercial type buses only. During this time, the company divested
itself of other products and markets to concentrate in this one area.
The
corporate office of the company is now located in a state-of-the-art
facility in Marietta, Georgia, and employees more than 100 dedicated
sales, technicians, and support staff to accommodate the needs of our
customers. Yet in more than 30 years, the original philosophy of the
Company has not changed: It does not matter if you’re a small church or
daycare center or a large transit agency, National’s mission remains
steadfast . . . to treat people the way they would wish to be treated
and to exceed their expectations.
